Waveland 2nd Annual Oyster Fest Cancelled

2011 Waveland Mississippi Oyster Fest Cancelled per Waveland Community Coalition

Per the Waveland Community Coalition FB page, the 2nd annual Oyster Fest has been cancelled due to city budget constraints. This seems short notice for a festival set for Saturday April 2nd.

The group posted the following message:

Regretfully, the WCC has to announce the cancellation of this year's OysterFest. The WCC's Board of Directors was informed, this morning by the city, that they could not afford to provide essential city services for the festival. Our sincerest "thanks" go out to all the sponsors, contributors, vendors and volunteers who gave of their time, talent and treasure.  http://www.facebook.com/pages/Waveland-Community-Coalition/104533907743

We are disappointed to hear about this cancellation because it is such a wonderful and energetic festival.

Chad's Official Waveland Wish List

I have sat here for a while trying to think of the things that I just think Waveland needs. Now these may not be reasonable or even politically correct, but I just got a hankering for putting this list down to binary.

  1. Whole Foods Market
  2. Movie Theater
  3. Swimming Complex that has a Swim Team
  4. Vietnamese Restaurant
  5. Google Fiber
  6. Gnat Repellent
  7. Symphony Ochestra on the Beach
  8. Christmas Light Bike Parade
  9. Kite Festival
  10. Brew House
  11. Amtrak Service
  12. Fat Burger
  13. Chipotle
  14. Skeet Club on Pier
  15. Community Garden
  16. Roaming Goat Herd
  17. Chickens
  18. Old Stuff
  19. Leg Lamps
  20. Fish Tacos

This list is not complete but it is a start. What do you think Waveland needs? Please be polite...

Is a Boat Ramp In Waveland's Future?

Fullscreen capture 2142011 53037 PM-1

A boat ramp and marina would sure be a nice asset for the Waveland beach area. I think this would be a good catalyst to help promote tourism and revitalize Coleman Avenue.  This will also most likely be a lower cost option than a marina and this option will surely have lower maintenance cost than earlier proposals. Time will tell if and when Waveland will get a new boat launch near the Fishing Pier. I for one hope to be launching a boat sooner than later.
